FACE-O-MAT by Tobais Gutmann

This amazing handmade portrait machine created by Tobias Gutmann, has travelled with him all over the world from Europe to Africa and Asia. With a few quick questions, he creates fun silly abstract paintings of his customers, giving them a one of a kind interactive experience. Read more about his concept below:

The rapid growth of the experience industry within technology has changed our lifestyle and way of communication for the better, but the measurement of how we value these experiences is not synchronized evenly thus causing symbiotic contrasts. Face-o-mat creates an amusing and humorous interactive experience. It’s an analogue portrait machine with a photo booth principle. Tobias Gutmann sits inside the booth with pen, paper and change and the wall in front of him is covered with reference images to create a facelift. Through the facelift, one can be drawn as an animal hybrid or one can choose to simply get a really nice portrait and each image is unique. Face-o-mat is also portable! It can travel anywhere to make people happy. Furthermore, it is possible to change the facelift subject depending on the context, but it has to remain witty, socially critical and fun.
